I’m a 1st Assistant Director, working primarily in long-format advertising and commercials. I was born and raised in Vancouver and still call it home.
I love the buzz before the first shot, the problem-solving, the impossible schedules that somehow come together and the feeling of a hundred plus people pulling in the same direction. I feed off of high-pressure situations and enjoy finding clarity in complex environments. My job is to bring clarity to complex situations, maintain momentum and help teams navigate challenges with confidence.
I make it a priority to get to know the people I work with quickly and genuinely. Directors, producers, cinematographers and crew members all do their best work when they feel supported, respected and comfortable speaking openly. I aim to create an environment that's welcoming, inclusive and collaborative—one where everyone feels empowered to contribute and bring their best to the day. Every director shoots differently, every DP works at a different rhythm and every crew has its own dynamic. Understanding those nuances helps me build schedules that are realistic, collaborative and tailored to the people bringing them to life.
But schedules and logistics are only part of the story.
I’m a firm believer that happy people work harder – they collaborate more freely, take bigger creative swings and lift the people around them. A good set should challenge people creatively while making them feel safe enough to take risks. While the work is inevitably demanding, the people should always remain the priority.
The longer I do this, the more I believe that people remember how you made them feel on the hardest days. Most days are long. Some are chaotic. I do my best to be someone people can rely on when things get difficult.
I can’t imagine doing anything else.
